Henchidos do amor.

Venid y adoremos

Venid y adoremos

Gloria a Dios en las Alturas

Hoy a la tierra el Cielo envia

Trayendonos paz a alegria,

Cantando el himno triunfal

Gloria . . . in excelsis Deo!

Gloria . . . in excelsis Deo!

The Friendly Beasts

Jesus, our brother, kind and good

Was humbly born in a stable rude,

And the friendly beasts around Him stood;

Jesus, our brother, kind and good.

"I," said the donkey, shaggy and brown,

"I carried His mother up hill and down;

I carried her safely to Bethlehem town."

"I" said the donkey, shaggy and brown.

"I," said the cow, all white and red,

"I gave Him my manger for His bed,

I gave Him my hay to pillow His head."

"I," said the cow, all white and red.

"I," said the sheep with curly horn,

"I gave Him my wool for His blanket warm,

He wore my coat on Christmas morn."

"I," said the sheep with curly horn.

"I," said the dove from the rafters high,

"I cooed Him to sleep, that He would not cry,

We cooed Him to sleep, my mate and I."

"I," said the dove from the rafters high.

"I," said the camel, yellow and black,

"Over the desert, upon my back,

I brought Him a gift in the Wise Men's pack."

"I," said the camel, yellow and black.

Thus every beast by some good spell,

In the stable dark was glad to tell

Of the gift he gave Emmanuel,

The gift he gave Emmanuel.

This service is intended to give the flavor of a Posadas ~ a celebration of the Nativity for the children of the congregation. Generally, during the procession, I will have the children carry the pinata, God's eyes, electric candles, and Mary and Joseph figures from the nativity. Children love to march, so I march them around, while the congregation sings a verse of the song, then stop at the end of each verse at one of the doors - usually manned by an older child. For a little story that goes well with this celebration, see my page on sermons for Advent and Christmas. The story of Zaccary and the Christmas Play works well.
