*Minutes from December Council Meeting were read by Karen Ellenberger.

Motion was made by Bob Morrissey, seconded by Gloria Kneen, to approve the minutes.

*Guests Daryl & Julius explained their program for inner city kids (ages 6-20’s) in New Bern, Shooting Stars Productions. They have a partnership with NB Civic Theatre and Craven Community College to bring these children together on Saturdays. The children are involved in performing skits, songs, poems, etc to express their creativity spiritually.

The group is attempting to raise funds to sponsor a NYC bus trip to see the Color Purple.

Loretta Bickwit recommended Pastor Rust, due to his (& St Andrew’s) community involvement. The group is staging a ‘An Original Dramatic Musical Production’ at the Athens Theatre and would like our support in raising funds for 7 children unable to pay for the bus trip ($299/child). Pastor donated sponsorship for one child. Fliers for the performance will be posted in the church.

Pastor’s report: recent deaths Paul Pontick (brother of Frank Pontick) who recently had become part of the St Andrew family.

Jim Daily’s funeral was held on New Years Day, (his wife is Barb Daily). Catechism class was mourning a 9th grade student who had taken her own life. Pastor reported on hospitalizations/surgeries.

Pastors 2007 Goals: 1) Compete visits to all St Andrew members homes <was a 2yr project> 2)Increase SS children’s attendance to 30. 3) Recruit 6 members as Asst Ministers, 6 crucifers and acolytes 4) Help St Andrew become more joyful and welcoming 5) Take youth on a servant trip.     Pastor met all goals but #2, SS attendance was increased to 20 children.

Pastors 2008 Goals #1: Convince the church to adopt RSI #2: Support an ELCA missionary with $1000 & perhaps have them visit St Andrew #3: Develop an Ecumenical Good Friday Service at St Andrew (3 hour “come & go” service with 6-8 other churches on our edge of town) #4: Recruit 6 people to serve 2 hours one day per week to perform Janitor services, due to heavy use of our building throughout the entire week. (This would supplement our Thurs Sanitation Engineers who do an excellent job, but services are needed daily because of growth)

Council has an enforcing role (constitution/policies, etc) but needs to EMPOWER people more (through support, $, etc). A $35,000 bequest was given to St Andrew by the Schellhorn Estate. Potential uses of this money will be discussed at the Council Retreat. Pastor gave $300 to Shooting Stars to sponsor an inner city child for the bus trip to NYC. Attendance for Christmas Eve services was up from last year: Noon-62, 7pm-156, 10pm-110 (total 328).
