Council Minutes 2/13/08

The meeting was called to order at 7:26 pm by President Bob Dellorfano.

Devotions were led by Joan Talbert.

Members absent: Lorrie Hagy, Pastor Rust

Guest speaker: Carol Burkhardt

            Discussion of the Church Library- shelves will be going up soon. A computer and software is needed for tracking book loans- money to come from memorials and Sanctuary Arts.

 

Pastor’s Report-none-pastor was ill

Treasurer’s Report- see report. Notes-Ended January over budget by $4,400

Personnel Report-Mike reported that Laura Scott is successfully using new nursery scheduling template. Evaluations now signed and turned in.

            Bob Dellorfano suggested that committee investigate administrative asst pay rates and responsibilities in local churches in area, to review job description and update.

            Discussion of extra hours worked led, in part, to budget overage condition. Overtime pay should be hours worked over 40.

Finance- Bob D reported that our current mortgage is a 20 yr (5.75%) through Thrivent. Payoff is currently 2025. Interest accrues @ about $1000/wk. Total interest paid on current note will be $410,000. Paying off loan by 2011 will save $236,427.

            Q&A session (2/10/08) concerns: In house fund raising program? 4 people said

they would volunteer to support effort. Letter will be sent to these volunteers to prepare a proposal by 3/17.

            Pete Schultz has 3-4 more fund raising firms to pursue.

            Due to these concerns, consensus to postpone by 60 days the Congregational meeting until 4/20/08. Finance will have presentations by In-house and outside firms during March. Will make recommendation for best plan for congregational vote.

Playground- Committee is getting started again under Len Long’s chairmanship. Ollie will submit plans (when in place) for insurance review,

Social Ministry-Bonnie passed out Social Ministry Survey to council members for feedback. She also passed around sympathy and new baby cards for the Hagy family.

Evangelism- see report. Special project to divide New Bern map to improve Evangelism calls/walks to distribute info. Next walk will be 2/21 @ 1pm. Will speak with pastor about Evangelism sermons on 4/6 & 4/13.

Fellowship-no report

Property- see report. Rework on fellowship hall to begin soon. Ceiling to be painted white. Fixture lighting to be upgraded from 15w to 25w bulbs. Lighting will be looked at in the Sacristy and Fellowship closets.

Stewardship- New members are not turning in Time & Talent forms. Will follow up with sponsors. Church attendance is down 30/wk for 2nd half of 2007.

Christian Ed- Barb Riegel and Linda Bloomfield will visit all classes for content. VBS discussed. See report.

Worship & Music- is looking at the Sound system. Daryl Anderson/Clarence Bergsma will look at equipment in booth that is not being used.

President’s Report- see report

New Business: Large Cross in fellowship hall will be hung in Sanctuary as a trial to see if it has more appropriate scale in contrast to the new organ. Motion to approve this by Bob Morrissey, second by Gloria Kneen. Passed.

            All council members to review church constitution regarding their areas and feedback changes to Bob Morrissey for compilation and review by council.

            Refugee committee would like to use some of the 1st of month food donations for our family.

            Bob D reviewed purchase requisitions for new council members.

            Egon/Karen reviewed Charitable Choices for Faith Based Initiatives for acquiring govt funding for charitable work. Most likely we do not qualify. Will continue to look at.
